eMERGE
Enhanced Medical
Image Reconstruction
in Grid Environments
Objectives
Novel algorithms enable very accurate 3D reconstruction of medical
images from 2D scanner data (e.g. SPECT) by considering principal 3D effects
of data acquisition. However, the need of high computational resources
usually restricts the deployment of these methods to dedicated research
centers.
A main objective of the eMERGE project is the development of a service-oriented
framework for near real-time 3D image reconstruction which can be used
in clinical environments by providing transparent access to remote parallel
computing systems over the Internet based on Grid technology.
The main tasks of the eMERGE project comprise:
- development of advanced medical image reconstruction algorithms
- parallelization of image reconstruction algorithms for SMP clusters
and supercomputers
- design and implementation of a service-oriented Grid architecture
for parallel image reconstruction based on Web Services and Grid technologies
- development of middleware for service management and service
negotiation
- research in various QoS and security aspects
