2006/01/25:

The remote control feature in Firefox 1.5 is broken (see bugid 312154). A workaround is to copy the firefox startup script from Firefox 1.0.x to the installation directory of Firefox 1.5.

The problem is fixed in Firefox 1.5.0.1rc1 (and later).

2005/06/15:

Released new version of sdtwebclient. Changes:

  • Make opera use -newpage instead of -newwindow
This change makes sdtwebclient behave better with opera 8.0.

2005/03/01:

Released new version of sdtwebclient. Changes:

  • Added more browser search paths (for Blastwave and Solaris 10)
  • Prefer mozilla and firefox to netscape by default
  • Added option to open tabs instead of windows
See Setup for download and installation instructions.

2005/03/01:

Redesign of the web page for sdtwebclient.

2005/02/28:

The sdtwebclient which comes with Solaris 10 is basically the same as the one provided in current patches for Solaris 8/9, but it prefers mozilla to netscape if it is installed. Solaris 10 comes with mozilla version 1.7 installed in /usr/sfw/bin.

2005/02/04:

Sun has issued new versions of the patches for sdtwebclient for Solaris 8 (revision 02 of 117049 and 117050 for SPARC/x86). These contain the same version of the script as the previously updated patches for Solaris 9, which showed some problems during testing and doesn't have support for Firefox.

2004/12/07:

The Gnome desktop environment comes with a primitive script to launch netscape when opening HTML files in the Nautilus file manager. It's called /usr/lib/netscape-launcher. A quick test showed that it can be replaced with a symbolic link to /usr/dt/bin/sdtwebclient. Tested under Solaris 9 9/04.

2004/08/12:

Sun has issued new versions of the patches for sdtwebclient (revision 02 of 117114 and 117115 for Solaris 9 SPARC/x86). A quick test shows some problems, and Firefox isn't supported either. So you still might prefer my version of sdtwebclient.

2004/08/02:

Sun provides Netscape 7.0 in packages SUNWns* as sun_netscape. We added this to sdtwebclient (Pointed out by a user).

2004/08/02:

Update web-page for Solaris 9 9/04.

2004/07/16:

Firefox support wasn't working with newer versions of Firefox, seems like there was a change in remote control between v0.8 and v0.9. We modified sdtwebclient for Firefox 0.9.1, it works now. We updated the default browser list to include more browsers.

2004/07/06:

Change official web page location to http://www.par.univie.ac.at/solaris/cde-www/. Update web-page for Mozilla 1.7.

2004/06/28:

The Solaris patches mentioned below (117114/117115/117049/117050) have been withdrawn by Sun, because sdwebclient doesn't accept URLs. See Sun Alert 57593 for details.

2004/04/28:

Sun has produced patches for sdtweblient for Solaris 9 (117114-01 for SPARC, 117115-01 for x86) and Solaris 8 (117049-01 for SPARC, 117050 for x86). They add support for newer netscape versions, mozilla and opera. I have not tested Sun's new sdtwebclient thoroughly yet, but you might want to try this patch instead of my sdtwebclient first.
