I'm testing PCA on as many platforms as possible. Currently I'm installing all patches on Solaris 9 9/05 (SPARC) and 10 8/11 (SPARC and x86) on a daily basis. I have personally tested PCA on Solaris 2.5.1, 2.6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 (SPARC/sun4u, unpatched FCS).

In rare cases PCA will show patches as uninstalled which don't really apply to the system, or patches which should install according to PCA fail to install. If you experience such a case, don't hesitate to contact me. If possible, I integrate special handling procedures for such patches into PCA. If this is not possible, or if a patch is unusual in some other way, it is listed below:

Misc:

  • The patches 127498, 127499, 127500 and 127501 (Patch Manager 2 Upgrade Required) only exist to notify the Sun Patch Manager 2.0 users of the requirement to upgrade to Sun Connection Update Manager; they do not install any files. For PCA users, this is irrelevant anyway.

Solaris 10:

  • 121430 (SunOS 5.8 5.9 5.10: Live Upgrade Patch): Depending on the OS version on which the patch is installed and the actual patch revision, it requires certain packages and different patches which are not listed in patchdiag.xref, so the patch may not apply on every system. See the patch README for details. The same applies to 121431 (SunOS 5.8_x86 5.9_x86 5.10_x86: Live Upgrade Patch).
  • 118833-36 (SunOS 5.10: kernel patch) and 118855-36 (SunOS 5.10_x86: kernel patch) require a reconfiguration reboot immediately after installation. No other patches can be installed before the system has been rebooted.

Solaris 9:

  • 117595-05 (SunOS 5.9: Manual Page updates for Solaris 9): This patch requires 117593 (SunOS 5.9: Manual Page updates for Solaris 9) to be installed. 117593 is a little unusual, because it replaces the complete SUNWman package with a new version. 117595 will only be shown (and installed) by PCA if 117593 has been installed previously.
  • In 113273-11 (SunOS 5.9: /usr/lib/ssh/sshd Patch), 114356-07 (SunOS 5.9: /usr/bin/ssh Patch), 114357-09 (SunOS 5.9_x86: usr/bin/ssh patch and 114858-09 (SunOS 5.9_x86: usr/lib/ssh/sshd Patch) ssh and sshd have been modified in a way that they now require the SUNWfns package to continue to function. This is enforced by a prePatch script which checks for the existance of SUNWfns. Verify that SUNWfns is installed before trying to install these patches. As of 2009/12/18, the ssh/sshd patches have been obsoleted by the current revisions of the patches 122300 (SunOS 5.9: Kernel Patch) and 122301 (SunOS 5.9_x86: Kernel Patch). So these patches now require SUNWfns.

Solaris 8:

Solaris 7:

Solaris 2.6:

  • 107369-17 (Netra ft1800 6.7: Misc. fix Patch), and 108145-10 (Netra ft1800 6.7: Multiple fixes patch): These patches are only to be installed on Netra ft1800 systems. Check the README files for special installation instructions.

Solaris 2.5.1:
